Peela is a jazz-fusion band consisting of some of the finest upcoming musicians in Helsinki.
The band is mainly led by guitarist/composer Johannes Granroth, who also writes most of their material, bringing influences from
jazz, funk rock and neo-soul to a mix where improvisation, powerful melodies, lush harmony and groovy rhythms play a central role.
Their music is mostly instrumental, though at times enhanced by Maja Mannila’s virtuosic singing.
Along with actively gigging for nearly three years, Peela has released their debut album "Layers" in May, 2018.
The album can be streamed or downloaded, with CD’s also being available at concerts or record stores.

Peela was founded in 2016 by guitarist Johannes Granroth, Drummer Johan Dahlbo and former bassist Filemon von Numers, who had already been playing together for a few years by then. Peela started taking its form when they started playing original compositions, which is when singer/keyboardist Maja Mannila joined to be part of their first concert under the name Peela. Saxophonist Sami Leponiemi was asked to “feature in a couple tunes” on a gig in late 2016, and has been part of the band since then. In 2017, Filemon moved to Sweden to study music, and currently Antti Ahoniemi is charge of the low end in Peela. Percussionist Jani Lehtioksa played on their debut album “Layers”, but soon after moved to the Netherlands to study music. Vibrafonist/Percussionist Mikko Antila was then recruited instead. The band is now actively gigging around the Helsinki area and looking to broaden its reach across borders.
